Oh and for bass sizes, have a look at this http://www.doublebassguide.com/ and click on basics then on the side menu size - which puts your bass body in the 3/4 range - but definately not the string length ;-).

I can probably grab this pix of Woody and ship it to photshop and get the specs from a scaled up illsutration. But 46 inches has to be wrong. My cheapie 4/4 (= 7/8 actual) is 44" and is the longest I've ever played.

23 posts on a thread titled "Very quick question"!
And that's with no participation from Bruce. (just a joke, Bruce)

The picture shows the bridge properly positioned.

Ooops. I'm 24th.

P.S. Mike, I've been meaning to say your name sounds like the name of an English village, as in Crumpton Downs, or Crumpton-On-Stour. I've spent 7 holidays there; love it.

Glad you enjoyed the hols Don and I wish I knew where this wonderful place is - but I don't. There is a place called Crompton around here, but I doubt you'd go for a holiday there.

The village I get [deliberately] confused with you may not have heard of in the US - Trumpton - Trumpton being an anmated village for pre-school kids with nothing better to do than watch TV. And 'trump' in the UK is another word for fart as in Donald Fart and Ivana Fart .

Anyway - hope you come over again and enjoy - BTW Warburton is a place near me as the eminant Paul knows - you'll have to bring him with you it would be his first time.

Right this minute, Tim Henman is playing at Wimbledon and my guess is that Kat won't be back until at least after the match - without wishing to appear sexist (again) Wimbledon watching, especially 'Timmy' and other 'gallant' british losers, is a madness that consumes the female half of the Uk for a fortnight once a year.

Never more than when Virginia (Our Ginny) Wade was playing.
I know there's no such place as Crumpton. I just meant that the name sounds like one. My forebears are from York; a Higdon was a 16th C. dean of the Minster. I meant 7 holidays in the UK. Actually, 8. England 4, Wales 1, Scotland 3. My wife's famliy comes from Skye and Fort William.

Ah Ginny - you know your Brits - you'll have to give Fuqua lessons - well she did win once - in Her Majesty's jubilee year beating Betty Stove in the final I think, winning a special place in the hearts of the people and so she has been a commentator ever since - just like McEnroe! oh and every other ex tennis player - just imagine if all bass players could retire to be critics.

I have no interest in any of this of course, but Henman's won the first set.

Do you have a digital camera? I'd like to see where the bridge is placed. If you can, full-on frontal shot and side shot as well so the angle of the bridge can be seen clearly.

All you need to do, is re-take the pic of "Woody" against the wall, and include in the picture a 1-foot rule, or something to compare the size. I tried counting the bricks in the wall, but had to guess the ones behind the bass - also what is the size of the standard UK brick? I guestimated about 13.5 bricks from bridge to nut, and if the bricks were 3", that would make a mensure of 40.5, which would be around Ύ size…

I rest me case m'lud

Hi Kat. I printed out the picture of your bass and measured.

Based on the other dimensions I get the string length to be some 104-106cm (41-42")...

The attached sketch shows where the measure is to be taken. Is this where you measured 45"? If so, the bridge must have shifted or something...
