Which way do I go

I have been playing a Mandolin for 7 years and would like to learn to play the bass. I have been playing around with a bass for about 1 year.

I am interested in purchasing a Swingmaster S9 or a Shen Hybred SB80 for around $1,500.00. I am looking for my best value in sound and resale.

Could someone give me some advice.
