Weak low E-String sound?

Hi I just recently aquired a bass, I've been playing around with it and realized the E string is quite a bit lower in volume than the rest. It seems the E string sound 'Airy' undefined and weak. Does anyone have any idea as to what may be the problem? Is it a product of poor construction? Can it be fixed by a Luther?

You try raising that action on it or a different set of strings?

E string is usually the first to die.

Change it.

Yup yup.

I have Obligatos on one of my basses. Love everything but the E string. It died in 3 months. I swapped some strings with a fellow talkbasser and one of the strings I got was a Spirocore Stark E string. After it settled in it sounded GREAT with the oblis. The ground shook.

Lesson... I now change my E strings about twice as often as the 3.

That's a mother of a string there. It must feel like a telephone pole compared to them skinny slinky obligati.

Yup. But it sounds so HUGE. Muhahahahaha!!!

Truthfully it is on my B bass and took about 2 months of steady playing it settle down and get used to. It is definitely much different feel than the 'gatos. The bass is in my teaching/studio/practice space so I practice on it daily.

When I first put that string on my muscles were killing me after 15 min. Now I can crush coal in the diamonds with my bare hands.

Similar problem

I just got my Juzek back from Professor Arnold. I had a similar problem but my E string might as well not have been there it was so weak. After changing strings and all other remedies that I felt qualified enough to perform I sent the bass to him for a complete overhaul and he found a crack over the suond post. It sounds great now. Get thee to a good luthier, and good luck. If that Spiro stark doesn't do the trick, I'd definately see a good luthier.
Good luck
Jim
