What bass is he playing here?

Went to a show last month with Marc Dresser and Fred Frith. My jaw hit the floor when I saw Marcs URB. I've seen URB's that are shallower or narrower than the standard 3/4 size but never shorter!

What is this? A custom one off? I want one.

There is another instrument maker that has something similar. I know I saw it in another thread, but I cannot think of the name or who manufactured it. It's not Gage though. I want to say the name started with an A or an R.

Yep! That's the David Gage Czech-Ease for sure. I have quite a bit to say about mine a few posts down on the thread titled "travel bass update" and in several other older postings too. I've had kind of a love it/hate it sort of relationship with mine since first getting it in 2005. But after spending sometime away from it and using an EUB on the road for a while I've concluded that most of the issues I'd had with mine had more to do with me than the instrument itself. I had sold mine last year, but just over the past weekend was able to get it back in trade for another one of my basses that wasn't gettting played much. These Czech-Ease basses are a whole lot easier to travel with than a regular sized double bass, and do sound very similar to a full sized double basses when amplified.

Yes, he make a very popular pickup called "The Realist".
There is a lot of info about this pickup and many others here on Talkbass.
