In absolute never played brand new condition. The only damage what so ever is a very small pea sized dent in the top but you cant see it. !!! But the brand is unknown right now, but I think they said Weitzle or something like that. has anyone heard of them or a similar brand? I am getting it for $2000 off from a sale price and trade in. For a meer $800.
Opinions will be great!!

You didn't actually say anything about why the Schnitzle bass is better. |

If the deal sounds too good to be true then it probably is. |

Who is offering this bass for sale? Is it a bass luthier or at least a string instrument shop? Is this the only bass you've checked out?
I'm not even sure where current Meisel stock comes from? China? Romania? Germany? Meisel had some decent basses back in the day, mostly German made and student level. I'm not sure what they've got now, but would investigate that if buying a bass in that price range.
Please note: I'm not dismissing the potential for a good deal here, but I'd be very cautious. There are many decent basses, mainly laminates and hybrids, out there in that general price range. The trick is to do the legwork to find one. |

The Meisels are all German made. They initially made their own, but for the last 20 years or so have been made by Musima. Someone posted something here, that Meisel just recently went out of business. I don't know if that's true or not.

It is carved, and in new condition. Being sold at a guitar and drum store. Very small, they got the bass from the origional owner, well actually maybe the owner is the store owner.
No scams, a legit Meisel bass. |

The "guitar and drum shop" thing is usually not the ideal environment for shopping for a double bass. It's best to try and shop from a DB shop, where someone who is educated in the world of double basses can guide you. I know you may not have that option in Omaha, but it still is not a good reason to pull the trigger on a bass just because it's the only one standing in a shop.
I agree with Bass Barrister.... the price seems low for a carved Meisel. How did you discern that it's actually a carved bass? I suppose it's possible that the shop owner wants to clear some floor space.... but then, why would he be taking your Kay in trade? I also feel that you should do a little more research on the current value of old Kay basses- you may be surprised, as Eric pointed out earlier.
Finally.... quality is an issue whether you're shopping at 14 or 114. I owned a Meisel ply for many years, did a ton of recording and live work on it. It was a good solid touring bass. I believe I lucked out and got a good one, because I've played other Meisels over the years that were pretty unspectacular.
If you can find a pro double bassist to accompany you to the shop and check it out, that could help. If you can't do that, go take a bunch of pics of it (everything, scroll, fingerboard, any labels inside,ff holes), and post them here so we can help you out.
