What do I sacrifice with a 3/4's?

I am an electric player thinking about making the switch to accommodate a couple new folkish projects I've gotten myself into. I have played standup in high school a bit and am familiar with technique (for the most part), but I am clueless as to upright models, options, etc. I have been thinking about a 3/4's only because they would be easier to carry around and play, but what do I sacrifice by not going with a full-size? I am guessing tone, but are there any other drawbacks? Also, what key elements should I look for in an upright (for instance I did not know there were adjustable bridges as opposed to unadjustable bridges!)? Can you guys recommend also some good beginner/intermediate level brands?

3/4 is the standard size. Full size basses are rather rare.

It's cool, it's a common question.
