Ok, I never would have thought that taking off a few little dots from the side of the neck would cause me such pain and frustration. Not as much problem with walking but man I have layed out some seriously stinkworthy solos where all my diatonic note choices suddenly have me playing "out." Add to this problem that I had been interested in trying some different strings to replace my ~10yr old Helicore hybrids. So the Obligatos I put on
really show off poor intonation compared to the old strings, not to mention rolling all over the damn place

. Crap, after about a week I would have paid money for an in-tune Cmaj scale.
Until I discovered this site I was happy in my own small bass world. Aargh, curse you TBDB!
So fast forward to now. I am mostly over the frustration hump and my intonation is improving, although I did compromise by leaving two position markers on the E side of the neck at the B and octave. I am developing a different and better (IMO) approach to mentally seeing and hearing notes instead of looking for them on the FB. The oblis have settled down some, though I plan to change them out for Spiros soon.
So, cons - major initial frustration and growing pains to get over the dependency on position markers; pros - personal growth as a musician, and more freedom to look at the pretty ladies instead of my L hand.
