Question What kind of finish is on my bass?

Does anyone know what kind of finsh strunal puts on there basses. I own a hybrid 5/20 with a high gloss finish, but I don't know if it's laqcuer, poly, or an oil. I'm guessing it's not an oil do to the fact thats it's really shiny.

I don't know the exact composition, but I do know (from hard experience) that it's about a foot thick and it's choking the life outta your bass.

mchildree,
tell me what you have found out. How much would it cost to get my bass stripped and redone in a real varnish

There's another thread somewhere in the Setup forum from earlier this year, discussing the process and results that several of us had in stripping and refinishing our basses. Just about everyone involved had done it themselves, so I can't give a cost estimate to have a luthier do it...one of the resident masters would be who you'd need to ask that.

There is some good info about stripping and refinishing in this thread. I think it is the one Mike was talking about
