What is meant by "Student Bass"?

Just what the title says. Is there something different? Are they of lesser quality than a professional bass?
Are they better than a CCB?
I am looking at a WM Lewis & Sons, George Hermann model.

A 'student bass' is a totally relative term. It could be for a HS student or a Julliard student...from $800 to $8,000

Simply put, most people refer to a lesser quality bass as a student bass. Take it for what you will..
