What is this upright?

Anybody know this bass or it's owner, Elizabeth White? I tried searching here and the internet, tried emailing her- came back as a bad address. Her site has no contact info- www.lizardbass.com

It's a cool looking bass!

Reminds me of some sort of Mando-bass....like one that took the body of a mando & the fingerboard/neck of a double bass.

I have no useful information on the topic though.

Good luck.

That looks very much like the work of Richard Osborne. Look at this- http://www.osborneguitars.co.uk/page...neguitars.html

It's a cool-looking instrument that, apparently, is tuned and played as a bass. Too way out for me to call it a bass much less a double bass.

Hmm, I wouldn't say they look a lot alike. F-holes compared to circular hole, different tail pieces, curved fingerboard compared to flat, pointy compared to rounded body. Of course, that doesn't rule him out as the builder of this bass- I just don't think it's clear by comparing the two instruments that it's the same guy.

In Atlanta, I played contrabass in a mandolin "orchestra", which consisted of 20-30 people playing mando-everything. There were mandolins, mandocelli, and one guy had a mandobass, sorta like that. It was a fun group to play!

I'm going to guess that this is a one-off custom build since it hasn't been indentified as the work of some known luthier.
