If anyone reading this lives in the NY capital region area, I would appreciate information on where to buy a double bass.
Thanks,

I would contact him and find out what basses he has at the moment. At the very least, you will have made a great connection with a superb luthier. http://www.merchantbass.com/

I am a bit surprised at the sparsity of options.
I'm located 3-4 hours drive from NYC (south), 3-4 hours drive from Boston (east) and also 3-4 hours drive from Montreal (north).
If that reminds you of some other stores / luthiers, I would love to know. |

$19,000 for a Juzek ??? It looks beautiful and is supposedly a Mater Arts model, but $19K? I think that one has been there for a while - a long while. |

You are correct, Albany seems to be a desert in that respect. Still, buying a musical instrument, is something that I will never do online.
I hope you enjoy your new bass. |

This was about 6 years ago. I had to put another $250 into it for setup from a local luthier. Since then, I've done my own work on it (plywood Chinese bass). I put a Schaller pickup on it and I can jam at rock band levels if need be (I use it for a jazz duo and for kicks some nights with my modern rock cover band).
NYC is not a far trip from Albany though, so that might be your best bet. |
