Where Do I Begin

I have played bass for about 3 years and then i switched to guitar to play in my brother's band. I missed playing bass so I picked it back up for a metal band and hated it. Then I went to a try out for a Pschobilly band which was a genre i had never heard before and he had a stand up bass there for me to try. I didnt get it at first until he showed me what it was suppose to sound like. It blew my mind how many notes he played almost effertlessly in one motion on the wrist. Unfortunatly I had to deploy to Iraq before I had chance to really sink my teeth in this style of playing. Im saving up to buy a double bass when I get back to the states but i need to know where to start. Im stationed in Alaska but I'm moving back to Georgia when I get out of the military. If someone can point me in the right direction it would be most helpfull.

wow - that's a whole lotta info...

I kept my chops up when I was in Iraq by going to the MWR in Balad where they had band instruments you could check out. But Alaska? Hmmm... Yeah, you *could* find a bass to buy there, but I don't know that I'd trust the APO to ship it!

meanwhile, get an electric and just do some scales & stuff. Once you get back to CONUS you'll have about a zillion options

I get mail addressed to Johnny Atomic, and I can cash checks written to Johnny Atomic.

And I don't have a Goatee (anymore)
