In a corner, bridge facing in. Or on the floor, on its side.

Having the bridge face the wall is better protection. The neck then leans AWAY from the wall instead of into the wall, it's better balance.

Do you have standing water in that corner? If so, maybe it will be a problem. what's gonna be worse for your bass is if somebdy whacks that bridge or (Mithra Forfend) if falls ****ing over ONTO the bridge.

Years ago, a piano restorer warned about outside walls because changes in temperature could affect the tuning stability.

If you live in a very wet climate (like my lovely western Oregon) and you have uninsulated walls, then it might not be the best place for your bass. Mold or mildew on the inside of the walls would indicate a problem.

That said, I live in lovely western Oregon, and I keep my bass near an outside wall (insulated) and have had no problems.

A former Miss Holland, I'm told. At any rate, don't face her into a corner.

Unless the corner of room it's in gets below Freezing or above 120 deg Fahrenheit or goes below 20% Humidity or above 80% humidity lean it against the corner bridge towards the wall resting however the edges find security. That is far more secure than bridge out or on the floor.

That outside wall thing has little validity in houses most places on earth where people who can afford to have a bass live.

Perhaps if you told us more about where you are or details about your house we may change our minds but at this point you've given us little to go on.

With my gamba corners, the left C-bout lays perfectly over the steam radiator. Keeps the bass nice and warm in the winter too!

Well, chances are her back side might be pleasant too. However, her bow grip doesn't look quite kosher.

How could you possibly notice that?

+1. I missed that entirely.

I too keep mine in a corner, bridge in. Both walls are outside walls (north and east even). Never had any problems.

here is your answer!!! I can't believe this thread is still going on. there is really not a whole lot of mystery on how to store your bass.
With that in mind I have two big 15" speakers hooked to up to my stereo in the living room, and I have always leaned my bass on it's side on the floor with the bridge right in front of the woofer. when we listen to music, most every day, the bass vibrate with the music. I don't know if does anything to it, but it certainly doesn't hurt! ;-)

Now boys... If we could back to the topic (dare I say it) at hand:

I keep basses in the studio leaning on the seat of a chair, with a square of padded rug under the bottom bout. These basses get picked up and played fairly regularly - and this is how my old teacher from the Boston Symphony kept his. But a bass player friend of my saw it and said it was not a good thing to do over long periods of time.

Any comments?

(Then we can go back to the Dutch babe!)

Louis
