If you live in a very wet climate (like my lovely western Oregon) and you have uninsulated walls, then it might not be the best place for your bass. Mold or mildew on the inside of the walls would indicate a problem.
That said, I live in lovely western Oregon, and I keep my bass near an outside wall (insulated) and have had no problems.

That outside wall thing has little validity in houses most places on earth where people who can afford to have a bass live.
Perhaps if you told us more about where you are or details about your house we may change our minds but at this point you've given us little to go on. |

I too keep mine in a corner, bridge in. Both walls are outside walls (north and east even). Never had any problems. |

With that in mind I have two big 15" speakers hooked to up to my stereo in the living room, and I have always leaned my bass on it's side on the floor with the bridge right in front of the woofer. when we listen to music, most every day, the bass vibrate with the music. I don't know if does anything to it, but it certainly doesn't hurt! ;-)

I keep basses in the studio leaning on the seat of a chair, with a square of padded rug under the bottom bout. These basses get picked up and played fairly regularly - and this is how my old teacher from the Boston Symphony kept his. But a bass player friend of my saw it and said it was not a good thing to do over long periods of time.
Any comments?
(Then we can go back to the Dutch babe!)
