"White" Double Bass

I have been looking for a beginner's upright bass for Bluegrass jamming. I have come across a few, including some older Kays and an unbranded (Chinese made, perhaps?) model. I am now looking at a used instrument that is called a "White". I am unable to find information on the "White" brand anywhere, and am wondering whether any of you have ever come across this brand and/or know anything about it? This bass has a nice tone and is in the right price range.

Additionally, it's painted with a colored lacquer, and I would consider refinishing it. Any advice there would be appreciated, as well.

Thanks.

Newer bass, or older? The H.N. White company made the King and American Standard basses of decades past.

I don't know. Based on the condition, I might guess that it's no more than 30 or 40 years old. Though I'm just guessing...
