Looks like a chinese factory bass. See for example this bass on ebay; very similar.

This factory may make basses for known brands, or they may not, I don't know. Also, these basses look pretty similar to the ones from "Song Violin", but look to be sold by a different ebay user (also with "song" in their name).

Actually the Chinese bass has narrow, sloped shoulders and the perceived "made in Germany" bass broad ones. Usually the Chinese basses have rich, beautiful flame (and this fact leads to a serious wastage of excellent tonewoods, as the final product usually is POS) but the disputed one has plain tonewoods. IMHO the bass came from Eastern Europe either unvarnished or finished. The scroll and the upper bouts hint towards this direction.
This is my $0.02

The bass does look chinese to me. The tuners look like what has been used on the middle line of Shen basses.

I totally disagree. The patterns are almost exactly the same, down to the "lip" around the edge of the top. Look at the pic I posted versus the one on the top left that Gabe posted.

As for the wood, you are referring to lack of flame? I think the back on Gabe's might not be maple, hence no flame.

It's easy to play and has a deep sound. With D'addario it sounded a little "metalic" but with Evah's sound pretty good.
