Who would be the best person to get my Bass appraised from? in the S.D./L.A. Area

Recently got a Bass and want to get it Insured, and need to get it appraised, I was told it is a french instrument circa 1830's..

Who in my area would you Gents recommend??
I feel like because of the age of the instrument, I wanna find the most
knowledgeable person in the area..
I'd like to try and confirm it's
origin as well...

thanks for your advice..

Lisa Gass is a really good start, especially if it's a high-end instrument. Lots of people swear by her.

Lemur Music seems to be quite well respected

It's been years, but I paid between $175 and $250. Whoever you call should tell you in advance. Do not agree to a percentage of the appraised value. The work is the same, regardless.

Thanks for the Advice Guys.. much appreciated... I have been to hammond Ashley..
It's a nice Place, but I don't get the feeling it has alot of interest in basses.. as it only has 1 or 2 basses.. and if I'm gonna get it appraised and possibly verify the origin..
I want try and take it to the areas most knowledgeable person in Doublebasses..

I think I'm either taking it to Lisa Gass... or Lemur..

I'll let you know how it turns out for me...

Thanks guys...

If your just looking for an appraisal Hammond Ashley is fine, granted they are more focused on selling violins, violas and cellos but I’d have no qualm taking a bass in for an appraisal. I wouldn’t expect Jerry or Lisa’s appraisal to be all that different.

That said, have HA do work on my bass would not be my first choice; their guy (can’t remember his name) is just fine, but he’s so booked doing school band violins you can’t get anything scheduled. That is unless you’re a nationally recognized performing artist, in which case they are very accommodating….
