Why did I ever stop using a MOORADIAN?!

I played a 3/4 bass for about 10 years, and about a year into it I bought a Mooradian case for it. 8 years of constant gigging, in and out of the house, travel on the road, in and out of a flight case and only ONE zipper broke. The one for the little "wheel pouch". I never fixed it (because, well, I never used a wheel). Never a nick or a dent and it never got wet in the rain.

Fast forward to about 2 and 1/2 years ago. I bought an incredible instrument. Responsive, older and 7/8ths. I figure that THIS bass would need the best case ever. I invested in a Reunion Blues bag for the 'best protection'. For 2 years, my bass was never more protected, but I must have added about 25lbs to the weight of my bass!! Schlepping had never been more difficult!! Add to that the fact that Reunion Blues' 7/8ths size case is ENORMOUS. Protective? Yes. Heavy? Hell yes.

I had about enough on a gig last weekend. I was trying to put my case back on with a nagging rotator cuff injury and I couldn't even pick the darn thing up! I bought a Mooradian online the next day. The only drawback being that I had to buy the 'Deluxe' model to fit my instrument. In the case it already feels about 20lbs lighter. What's the lesson I learned? It's important to buy a good case to protect your instrument, but I also think that I'm responsible for it's well-being too. I got 8 good years out of a Mooradian because the case is great and because I'm a little anal. I expect to get a lot of good years out of this one.

I'm also using a new Reunion Blues 7/8 bag for my new bass. The joke is that the straps are for carrying the bag around without the instrument. Got it new for $225 off Ebay. For the protection and savings I'll use it. If I need another bag, it will be something lighter.

I just got a custom Messina bag, and man, I couldn't be happier! Not heavy, but great protection. I'm glad you got a Mooradian that works for you...they are really nice bags. The padding is a little too open-cell for me, but they work great and have one of the best reputations for longevity around. Plus, it's made in the USA, which in this economy, gets props!

I had a Reunion Blues bag, and while it is built like a tank, it is very unwieldy. Great zippers, though!

For anyone in the market for a bag, you can't go wrong with the Mooradian, but for ME, I LOVE my Messina. Fits like a glove, and has KILLER backpack straps, and a gazillion pockets. And...IT'S BLUE!

Yeah I bought a Reunion Blues case after my Mooradian died. It was SO HEAVY it was insane... I bought my new bass in August and it came with a Kolstein case. Works great, I love it. I love Mooradians too, though.
