Ouch, poor quality scribbles over an otherwise good bass I would guess ...

Looks like someone took a wood-burner and made their own design.

Jeeze, I hate that ****.
I found a great Neuner and Hornsteiner at a guitar shop a few years ago (Busetto). Painted and carved with "I (heart) Jesus" up by the button....rescued that baby and had Bob Ross restore 100%. Now being played by a fine Denver area classical bassist.
Too bad, but just have a luthier get that out. No big deal if you care about the bass.

I like it. Why not decorate your own bass?

Id be more interested in seeing if any of those symbols have significance.

I'd be more interested in preserving the work of the luthier and getting some financial interest back on a nice carved bass like that....whatever floats yer boat...here's some ideas for you...can you do that? ...........Sure you can.

Dont be so biege. Musical instruments from all over the world in all cultures are decorated. A musical instrument can be just as much a piece of visual art.

Jazz, it was casually directed at you, in part, but moreso towards a series of postings directed Paul's way that were somewhat disparaging in nature. What I've been noticing are quite a few people who are less familiar members to the forum taking some rather cheap shots at one of our most distinguished members, Mr. PW. These range from the minor, such as yours to more severe...

I've done some research, and it appears the is an actual English translation of the marking. Loosely translated, it means "I'm bored, and there's a huge chunk of smooth wood, and I have these sharp tools..."

P-Dub is a doody-head.

Edit: Also, although a google search results in apparently-misspelled *beige* hits, I'm pretty sure Paul is totally biege.
