Woooo! New bass!

Well, my parents just put a deposit on a double bass for me!

The list price was £5000, but the man at the shop gave it me for £4000.

It is a used Hungarian bass, probably from the mid 20th century. 4 strings, quite a slim neck. Some lovely flamed maple, that looks gorgeous in the right light.

Just thought I would let you guys know.

I will try and get some pics at some point. I'm not picking it up for another two weeks though, so I will get some then.

Well, after having my bass for over a year, I finally got round to taking a couple of pics! She really lived up to my expectations - what a gorgeous and amazing instrument!

I apologise for the slightly dodgy quality - I'm going to blame it on my camera phone. Also, the dark patches on the first two are shadow, not part of the finish.

Beautiful instrument! They are true works of art and I hope to own, and learn to play one someday. But extremely expensive.

They are rather sexy, aren't they?! They are the main reason I bought it to be honest...

It plays beautifully - I am very much a classical double bassist, although I have used it for a couple of the quieter jazz gigs, and I did a recording session for an indie band with it as well - imagine Placebo, with a double bass playing a jazz-inspired walking bassline...

Yeah - it is a lovely bit of flamed maple. It looks even better in person!
