i have seen all the things people say warning against CCB's, but it claims to have a german origin, any experts offer any more information on it by sight? i have asked the seller for more information.

What say the masses?

Ok, I've seen it now.

Yes, it is a German laminate bass, it's probably about 50 years old or more, made around the same time as my own bass. The endpin assembly is identical to the original on mine.

It's in need of some attention from a luthier; new strings, new bridge, a fingerboard dressing, and probably the soundpost re-set, not to mention a general tidy-up. But, it has decent tone even how it is, with very old strings on it and with shims under the bridge, so fixed up it should be really quite nice.

Definitely worth the asking price, probably quite a lot more after it is fixed up.

Hi Pstewart, here's my Trademe advice: take the "Buy-now"!

If you bid and it hits the reserve, the buy-now will disappear, and the final price could very well be higher than the buy-now price.

Oh, I should have said: I tapped around looking for loose seams, found none, and I had a look inside and all looks good in there too. No label. I think it's structurally sound.

I'd be willing to help somewhat with logistics getting it to Wellington, but I can't build a packing case. I could take it to Peter Stephen's shop for you if you wanted him to do the work. He charged me $800 for a much bigger job (involving taking the fingerboard off, straightening it and the neck, and fitting a new endpin, as well as everything that bass would need). Peter would be far better placed than I to ship it up as well.

No problem. I think it's a nice bass for the money... but do get the work done, it really does need it.

Congrats, I think you'll like it.

Yes, it does. The tailpiece is much newer than the rest of the bass.

So you think new bridge, fingerboard dressing, new strings? What else would you recommend looking into Andrew?

I'd recommend looking at the soundpost as well; it looked in decent condition, but I couldn't judge the position or the fit. And obviously the nut too, that goes with the fingerboard work. There are a few dings that need sharp edges softened or tacked down so they don't catch on anything, and that would about do it.

And maybe a different tailpiece, fine tuners are a bit silly given you have machine heads on a bass. However, that tailpiece is serviceable, so if the cost of another bothers you, you could wait on that one (probably $300 if I remember what Peter told me right).

Sweet as, i'll probably leave the tailpiece for now, fine tuners don't worry me that much haha.
