Talking Yet Another New Standard Success Story

I purchased a hybrid Cleveland New Standard about a year ago. I told Arnold that I would post it on Talkbass but it has taken me a year to get around to it. It is pretty selfish of me since the only thing I look at here on Talkbass are AES or other New Standard Instuments posts. The bass has bumpers, a slightly darker finish (thanks Wil), Sloan tuners and a realist. Arnold, Wil and Jed did a fine job on this incredible bass.

Man. New Standard is like 20 minutes away from where I live. Some time I REALLY should go and audition a couple basses, then sell my Kay and get a La Scala.

The sound is bommy and warm. Big wound be another way to describe the sound. People aways comment when I first to play with them how loud the bass is. I would love to comment on how even the sound is but I am mostly doing my playing in frst position. I recently had a lessen with Dave Santoro and he had me lower the bass. That changed the way my right hand strikes the strings and also since it is lower it seems to be a deeper sound. I love the way the bass sounds. I am thinking about putting gut strings on the bass, but we shall see. I was thinking Pirasto Eudoxa strings. They are bank though. Anyone have any comments about gut in general?

I love those strings. They have such a warm tone and a nice feel. They are expensive though. Keep your eye out for a slightly used set if you want to try them.

I have Olivs on the D & G of my hybrid Lascala. I love them.

Before you put them on, you must have Arnold enlarge the bridge and nut grooves.
