Your esteemed opinion sought.

Hi folks. I've been playing on the electric side of the bass fence for a good 21 years now and have always wanted to get into the upright- but the right bass has never really popped up. Knowing next to nothing about what makes a "good" bass doesn't help- and means I need to rely on old hands for advice.

Anyway, this popped up on the 'bay. It has a repaired crack on the front which has apparently been professionally reglued to the body.

It's near me and I can go and check it out. I'm also after more information on who did the repair so I can quiz them further.

This is a great price in Australia. (<$1000 is unheard of for decent quality). Is newish Hofner a respectable brand?

Do we think this would be a good beginners bass or is it asking for trouble?
thx, Vin.

Don't Do It...

The guys is being honest in saying that he doesn't even know what he's doing...and the repaired crack is right over the bass bar, one of the key elements to the strength of the top.

Save your money and buy a decent bass...

I agree. That Bass bar crack would cost at least another grand to repair correctly. For that you could get a decent ply bass.
Save your money.

That's a Chinese Hofner. I had one in the shop here recently and was unimpressed.

Really poor wood choices made and no discernible skill in the assembly. Sorry man.......
