Afterlength damper on BugBass?

My original model solid body Azola BugBass came with the little leatherette afterlength damper and I've always left it on.

I took it off today and thought the sound was a bit more acoustic because of the harmonics off of the afterlength strings. Maybe the attack was a bit more upright-like as well.

Anybody else take the damper off of their BugBass?
