Anyone try Evah Pirazzi's on EUB?

I'm trying to decide between the Pirazzi's or Obligatos. I play a NS WAV 4.

I have Obligatos D & A, and put an Evah G yesterday.
I'll let you know later, but so far, the Evah seems quite darker than the Obligatos.
I didn't like the Obli G much; it was too nasal and thin.
Depends if you plan to play more pizz or more arco, and if you want a more traditional ro more modern tone.

Evah = more traditional, warmer, better for arco
Obli = more modern, brighter, better for pizz

I'll check tonight if I still have my Eudoxa G to retry.
I also plan to retry a Permanent G.

Thanks , Francois.

What kind of EUB do you play? I know the Pirazzi's are bigger than the Obligatos...so I'm concerned about the string fitting through the tuner hole.

I play 97% pizz, 3% arco...and just want the closer sound to a real DB...

Do you think the Evah's will be too 'boomy'....(obviously projection isn't a need with an electric upright?

Thanks again for your insight and opinion.

Hi Chasy.
My profile shows my setup; a Carruthers SUB-1.
I've only tried the Evah G on my EUB, and I'm disappointed.
The comments I gave come mainly from the Evah megathread on the Strings forum:
Evah Pirazzi strings megathread part I

(Beware: 42 pages, and still growing!

Tonight, I tried a Dominant G and a Jazzer. (don't have the Eudoxa anymore)
I kept the Jazzer for the moment.

But I may also try an Original Flexocor...

I tried Evahs on my upright and while they sounded great acoustically, they didn't amplify very well. A fairly large number of other people have had the same experience with them. Since an EUB is all about amplification, I can't imagine they would be very good on an EUB. I have a Yamaha Silent Bass and I wouldn't even consider putting Evahs on it. I haven't used the Yamaha for a while but when I did, I used Spirocore Mittels.

I'd probably stay away from the hybrid strings for EUB in general. They generally sound quite good with carved instruments but I've heard they don't sound so good with plywood or plywood/carved mixed basses. The plastic core becomes a bit more noticeable on those instruments. I'd imagine that you'd have the same response on an EUB. They are also quite expensive and prone to breakage.

I'd go with steel strings and work on your plucking hand technique to make it sound more "uprighty".
