Best pre-amp and compressor for Ampeg Baby Bass?
I am soon to have a 5-string Baby Bass. Am a little concerned about the viability of just plugging it into my bass guitar amps. I have two rigs: Ampeg SVT-CL/410HLF and an Ampeg V4B/2x15. Will I dig the way the BB5 sounds through these amps for old-time country music? If not, what can I do to get more sustain and DB-like tone as an alternative to the BB "thud"? Your thoughts please guys and gals.
If you want more sustain, then you got to put another pickup on the bass.
If you have the original metal bridge, then you need to get a wooden one.
OK, any specific recommendations?
You can get a wood replacement bridge from Bob Gollihur (www.gollihurmusic.com).
But it's very basic, no wings.
Also from Ray Ramirez. (http://rayramirezbasses.com/Accesories.php)
The latter is much nicer.
Bob G. sells many pickups.
This step is the most complicated though.
Finding the right pickup and fitting it the right way can be tricky.
However, just the new wooden bridge with the stock magnetic pickup could be satisfying.
I'd try just that as a first step.
