Question Blind EUB buy! Please help!

Hello all!

I’m an electric bass player and I’m in the market for an EUB.
As I mainly play jazz I really, really would like a traditional acoustic upright bass, but I don’t have nor the money, the car (for transportation), the house (noise and space) and the money (again!) to buy one! I think that an EUB is a good give-and-take solution!!

My main problem in this acquisition process is the place where I live - Portugal. Nice country, but here we do not have a single store that carries (besides the Warwick Triumph) or imports electric upright basses! I have to buy online and consequently cannot try them! My only support is the reviews and opinions I read… Sad but true…

I only have two choices: NS Design WAV4 or ARIA SWB LITE ONE. They have more or less the same price (thru Thomman online store).
What would your opinion be? I am more towards the Aria as I prefer the way it looks, but I’ve read little about it (although it has some good reviews here in talkbass). Can anyone give a comparison of the two? I would like something that is as close to a DB as possible (I know that the EUB will never sound like a DB)!

For me Thomman seems the most reliable European online store, but if you have any other suggestion, please let me know!

Thank you in advance for your patience and time!

Kind regards,
Nuno.

Try AlterEGO

I'm fairly certain that AlterEGO offers a trial period - http://www.alter-ego.it. You should focus on the BabyEGO instead of the Acoustic Line.

I love Portugal, played a gig in Guimaraes a few years ago and it was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.

I'm sure that a couple of shops have a Dean Pace Bass that you could try...

Thank you so much your replies… Special thanks to xxxx for your complements on my country! Indeed it is a beautiful country, but it could be so much better! You only need the right person in the right place and until now we have failed this simple task.
Well back to the EUBs….

Alter-Ego basses really seem nice but they are a little out of my price range! I wanted to spend, at most, 1250€ (something like $1690).
Concerning Dean basses I really don’t like them and you really cannot find them in any store here in Portugal.
Until further notice, I’m stuck with ARIA or NS Design Wav4.

Anyone else would like to give any insight? I really would appreciate it…
Once again, thank you all.

Kind Regards,
Nuno.

I can't help you with a comparison of the two, but I've been using a WAV4 for jazz gigs for the last three months or so and it has been very well received. I have some audio clips of it on my website if you'd like to hear it... the first three tunes on the following page were done with the WAV4;

Go second hand. There's 3 EUBs for sale in this forum at the moment, or there's eBay.
