I can appreciate your experience, but my own experience with my WAV4 does not jive with it; I can also only assume that you're talking about the WAV4 with its stock strings. As I mentioned, mine has the Helicore Orchestra strings on it (a very worthy $99 upgrade).
Despite my very average bowing skills, I am quite pleased with the full, warm, singing tone that emits from the amplifier when I bow it. I've also raised the action to be more like my "real" bass, which probably also helps considerably (The stock WAV is set low - IMHO too low - maybe to impress electric bass converts with its ease of playability).
Also, just to clarify: are you saying that the Ergo - which is one long stick with no body - has MORE wood than the WAV4? I'm having trouble following you to that conclusion.
