My problem is that I don't own a car, I don't want to bike around with my SLB200 and none of the shops had a EUB...so I haven't tried any of the amps with my instrument. I also play EB, but
I don't play in any band for the time being but I'm planing to, so the combo should not be too small (read: "quiet"), but still handy enough to carry around and not too ugly.
Combos i like: Ashdown abm series and eden nemesis series.
I've also tried the mb150 but its a bit more expensive than the other two.
I've read the thread about the mb150 so I'm more interested in hearing about the other two...and others I might have missed!? Great deals on the internet?!
I live in DK and my my price limit is around 800 €.

I was on a jazz course recently and played my DB though one of the cheaper Ashdowns, the blue one. I didn't play it load but it had a lovely warm sound. I also have a MAG 210T which has a good sound and is certainly not quiet. Don't use it much now as I go through an Acoustic Image Contra. Great amp but will definitely be outside you price bracket. Very portable though.
Happy hunting. |

I have not tried the Electric Blue but a guy not far away from me is selling an almost new Electric-Blue 15-180 for 215€...guess that's an ok pricetag..?
It's just that I have an old combo with almost the size and power as the Electric-Blue...
Don't know if you know that feeling: The gear you are using is actually ok compared to your technique and experience...it's just that you want somthing...more...

For a smaller rig, the Nemesis 2 x 8 combo sounds excellent. |

Right now I don't what I'm gonna do...been looking for a used combo or amp and cab...but didn't find something (here in DK) that i wanted bad enough to buy it, so maybe I'll sit down and wait for a while, and see if something pops up.
The most tempting thing i found so far was an eden 210xlt cab that a guy would sell for 270 € but haven't called him because I guess it's more ment for modern bass sound than say an "upright" sound...or am I wrong?
Or a guy selling the old swr baby blue combo for 530 € or maybe less...would that be something for me?
Been looking for a used mb150 but nobody is selling it for the moment... |

I've used the same one for 20+years hauling it around on subway and bus with only one trip to the repairman. The GK ext. cabinet virtually doubles the output and the "stack" is still transportable on mass transit. I've survived 27 years as a freelancer in NYC with no car, and this amp is a big part of that. |

If you like deep, accurate low end and a very neutral hifi sound, the 210XST is great; I just bought a 112XLT which doesn't go as deep but has more midrange detail - probably their best for upright, and very light & compact. |

a baby blue or mb150
Thoughts:
mb150: a bit lighter, cheaper than the baby, cheaper here in DK than e.g. thomann, gigbag
baby baby blue: don't ask me why but...if I was to buy one right now, it would probably be this one...
Both portable and great sound
So...again I ask for experience and advice kind of "one vs. the other vs. others I might have missed"-question
And thanks a lot for the replies so far

I know there are better sounding amps and speakers, but weighing the trade-offs, I don't think you can beat the GK. |

I live in DK and my my price limit is around 800 €. | I have a PJB Briefcase which I like but you may need more power. Works well with my Pbass and my EUB. Believe it or not I tried one of the Behringer Thunderbird and was impressed with it as a practice amp. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...Amp?sku=480683

More watts than the MB150 and I added the Epifani 112 for larger gigs. I play both my Azola EUB and my Roscoe 5 string through it and it is perfect and both are extremely light! |

I've been looking on the Markbass combo...they have it at thomann but there is no, as far as I can see, headphone out?...for me thats a necessary feature. But otherwise it looks like a great combo.
I'm don't like the design of the pjb...call me old fashioned but I like the normal design of an combo with the amp in the front and a 10' - 15' speaker...I've been looking at their combo with 4 5' but I've planned to place the combo under my desk, so I'd like the knobs and the like to be in front...
There's actually a guy selling the mb150 here in DK, but it's not even close to where I live...but I'll be in that part of the contry for Xmas, so I'll contact him soon | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
