Dirt Cheap EUB

Hi there.

Long time viewer, first time poster
(just like the radio)

Ive just started double bass lessons at school and was wondering if anyone can reccomend a good eub.

It has to be sub £400 and must be left handed.
A regular db is fine but im guessing they cost a lot more

Thanks

Have you looked at the Stagg EUB? They're about £300 or so in the UK.

Don't know about left handed though but you may be able to re-string it and drill a few extra holes for the body extensions.

It's possible to buy a proper 'upright' for £400 but it will be made of plywood.

Are you keeping an eye on eBay ? I got my upright there for £250. (admittedly basses this cheap are a rarity and it was quite beaten up) However I'm guessing left-handers are pretty un-common and you'll either need to wait a bit, or else (maybe) get a right-handed one and convert. You'll need to find a friendly luthier near you to find out if that's possible, and how much it's going to cost.

There are new basses on ebay right now that meet your criteria EXCEPT for the left-hand thing ... LINK

I'm guessing a cheap, left-hand, EUB is going to be harder to find, even, than a cheap, left-hand upright.

Best of luck in your search ...

EDIT: Moderators, I've just realised I've linked to a page of ebay search results which may be against the rules. If so, can you remove the link please and leave the rest of the post intact ? Only trying to help, here.

EUB's

I just got an Ergo EUB. I'm pretty happy with it and the price is awesome. Just a few tweeks to properly shield and ground it and voila'. Jesse' is a pleasure to deal with too.

a 4 string runs $650 in usa dollars.

Hope that helps!

I'm a lefty and I got a Palatino, flipped it and it works great. I bet you could find a used one in your price range. It's also sold under a few other names in Europe, I believe.
Good luck

If you've just started learning, why go left-handed? IMO, it's much better to learn to play a standard instrument, and if you've never played much, no more difficult. After all, they don't make left-handed pianos, flutes, saxophones...
I have a friend who plays drums left-handed and he will never forgive his first teacher for telling him a lefty should set up the kit backwards - by the time he tried to change it was too late.

Because sometimes when you're left handed, you're left handed............opting to "just do it right handed" isn't really a choice. ;-)

Not so...

Many instruments are available left-handed, you usually pay more for the privilege of having one!

ive decided to start playing left handed because ive been playing electric bass and guitar for a number of years and would find it pointless to go through all the hassle of re-adjusting to a new way of playing

I like to think of the thousands of $$dollars$$ I've saved over the years by not being able to buy all those basses I would have gotten if I were a righty!! ;-)
Ok, so I spent it on amps instead! LOL
