Smile EUB as home practice instrument for orchestral musician

Hi there, I'm a double bass player and I have a great asian 7/8th sized bass that I play on at university. I want something I can practice on at home but I really have no space to bring home my double bass. Would it be practical to invest in an EUB for classical arco playing only? I don't play jazz or anything of the sort, I just need something with a 41" mensure that I can play on at home that isn't large.

Thx!

It's not just mensure, you need something that approximates the bridge curve and response, the neck/heel/top bout join and the fingerboard bevel (if your real bass has one).

As Ed says it is not 100%, but I use my EUB for practice (always arco) late at night.
It does get the job done. I use an Ergo, it is on a stand which does not make as much difference as you'd think.
They are generally a useful thing to have around due to portablity and better perfomance is high volume situations.
For your situation I would reccomend the Ergo over all the others because the block of wood responds much like a carved bass and has a good unamplified sound.

I use my eminence for home practice (apartment). . . works great. I took out the bridge that came with it and had a 1/4 size made with the string spacing the same as my db (made a huge difference in playability and sound). I like it because you get an actual sound out of the bass and a real db type feel. I would very much recommend it, but I got a really good deal on mine and Eminences can be expensive.
