Didn't even know these existed. Kind of like the "frying pan" guitars they started with.

The discrip says it weighs about 40 pounds!

Guess a strap is out of the question.

I had only seen catalog repros up til now. The bass originally came with an amp to which it was attached via the endpin. Pretty cool, and amazingly ahead of its time designwise.

That's what I thought when I saw the posting. It's so similar to the EUBs that we consider so "cutting edge" these days.

Guess they were just alittle too far ahead of their time to really catch on with that one. Bet the "Dad" mentioned in the items discrip was a pretty forward thinking fellow though.

I wonder what kind of pickup it has because it looks like it has 2 gut strings?

The early EUBs and PBasses as well, had gut strings with wire winding over the pickup area to work with the magnetic pickups. The Ampeg Baby Basses had a different system.
