FYI: New NS Design WAV 4 bass coming

Just got a press release that may interest y'all:

NS Design’s Ned Steinberger has designed a new series of affordable electric bowed instruments to be introduced to USA Dealers for the first time at the Summer Namm Show in Austin , July 14-16, 2006. The new WAV Series quality instruments share the essential design features of original CR Series professional performance instruments, and are available at an affordable price to seasoned musicians as well as student players.

The initial offering of this series is the full scale, WAV 4 electric double bass featuring NS Design’s proprietary Polartm piezo pickup system. These basses will be presented in a choice of colorful finishes and ship to customers with a padded gig bag and foldable tripod stand.

Suggested Retail: WAV 4 Bass, $1195 (includes tripod and gig bag).

I spoke to my rep about it, the colors have not yet been nailed down yet, but you can probably count on black and a tobacco sunburst. It is totally passive with a volume and passive tone control, so while it's touted as a "Polar" pickup system it isn't the sophisticated one from the other basses in the line. No photos are available yet.

They won't be shipping until September; check with your dealer of choice for availability. Pretty exciting, a NSD bass at such a low price!

That's very impressive looking.

I'm really enjoying my BSX EUB. I can totally see myself getting one of these in the next year, or so....

Thanks for the heads up, Bob!

This might be the excuse for starting EUB/DB playing I've been waiting for.

Not from what I remember.

They did hint that other models to follow.

I was so enamored with the cr4m I didn't even notice it. And more confusingly they did not mention it to me while chatting. Were they showing it all three days?

I heard from Hap Kuffner when he visited me 2 months ago that the colour will be Black , Sunburst and Blue burst.
I will ask him again for this update, because I have placed order for the 1st shipment.

Does anyone know if it'll have the same piezo transducer system that the big one has?
It should be easy then to just add a small FET buffer circuit, and you'll be able to run long cables to your amp without any external preamp-thing... Nice if using the strap system.

I want one of these! When will they hit the market?

I cannot rule it out, but I'd guess it's a 99.5% non-possibility. I've got all the specs they provided on my site now, and it was not specifically mentioned in any of the info I received. Given it's a lower priced version of the CR series, I'd say no.

But I will ask.
