Getting used to 6 or even 7 strings

I recently got an ergo 6 string. I am really enjoying it. I wanted something with different qualities than my double bass for travel rather than a poor substitute.
Extended range is obviously one places to get new options. I am wondering what others have found and how they have worked out gettting used to 6 or even 7 string EUBs. The great English bassist Paul Rogers plays a custom 7 acoustic string, I am thinking of trying to get an ergo 7.

Anyway, one thing I have done is set the EADG strings much higher than the B & C.
I am also going through my Simandl etudes and other pieces both on the traditional four strings and taking some an octave down or up and making other transpositions that make use of the extra strings.
It would be great to hear how others have gotten used to the exteneded ranges basses and any other useful information.
