Have you tried this?

First off, I play mostly progressive and death metal. My good friend and his brother play drums and guitar and were working on a project this past summer. Nothing really took off, but now that college is in full swing, they are looking on writing more material and potentially gigging, with me on bass.

Last night, however, I found out that the guitarist had written the first few songs using a fretless in D standard. He then suggested I use my Stagg 34" EUB as my main bass when we played.

My questions are thus:

1) I've tried drop tuning on my Stagg before, but not for extended periods of time. I know the strings are of thick enough gauge to drop, but I'm not sure about D standard. Anyone played in an alternate tuning with a EUB? (I'm still using factory strings, so I'm not exactly sure of the gauge)

2) What gauge strings should I use for this tuning (I need new strings eventually...)?

3) Have you played metal or a show using a EUB before? How do you adapt stage presence wise? (For the record, the band will probably be a 4 piece of Guitar, drums, keys, and myself).

Thanks

Hi Rypher.
Since this short-scale EUB is most probably strung with BG strings, I think you should ask the question about detuning on the BG Strings forum.

Regards,
François
