i need your opinion

this is my question:
I play double bass with every bands I play and I can use my double bass almost 95% of the gigs because I travel with my car.
but sometimes ( maybe 5-6 times in a year) I have to take an airplane and there are many problems to carry on my db: extra charge, difficulties to take a taxi with the flight-case, toil to move with the flight-case, risk of damages on the db during flight...
so in the last years I tend to play a double bass that someone can lend me at the gig's place; but in almost every case is very difficult for me play that bass because the different set-up (strings, action...) and maybe measure of the strings lenght and position of the D on the first string.
I think that maybe is good for me to buy a decent EUB to travel and to set up with my strings and action and with a fingerboard that I know.
But I don't want to spend a lot of money because my primary instrument (that I love) is my double bass. I think to have a budget of $1000 max ( 800 euro).
suggestions?
thanks in advice.

The most compact are the Ergo and the KYDD methinks.

There's a megathread on the Ergo here:
Ergo Megathread part I

The KYDDs are out of your budget, but the Ergo is.

Did you read the ERGO megathread I suggested?
If so, what do you think?

In your budget tag, there's very limited choice.

Maybe you could find something else at a lower price 'used' (previously owned)? Try Ebay and used-goods advertisements in your region, and if you see something that fits your budget then you can come on here and research it.
