KYDD Bass - Which One?

Could use some help - I am thinking of buying the Big KYDD 4 string. Wondering if I should consider the five string version over the four. I do not want the 30 inch piccolo bass. I hear it is more of a cello. The Kid is 35 inch.

I have an upright - though not incredibly good at it but can get by. Played some cello in college and learned electric bass from an upright player. I play mostly fender jazz and jazz fretless, along with 5 string and 6 string Japanese guitar basses. I have pretty good chops on bass guitar.

With this, I will probably use it in a folk rock type of thing to change it up a bit. Will never be a classical bass player and will not likely be a jazz player (I am also a trumpet player and would rather play trumpet for jazz). The 5 string guitar is always a good option but I think it would be easier to get use to the 4 string.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

John

Isn't the Big KYDD like a 3/4 DB in scale? Around 42" ?

If you're already used to 5 and 6 strings basses, then the fiver seems to good choice, no?

Francois,

The Big KYDD is a 35" scale. They have a 42" also.

I am thinking the 5 string may be a better choice, will not be doing much (if any) bowing.
