Looking to add

Hello all,

I have been playing horizontal 4str for about 20 years. I then switched to the 5str.

Now I would like to learn the upright. But like lots o folks I don't have anything big enough to transport it. Thus the EUB.

do they make 5str EUBS? Which ones actually sound like good upright?

I am playing on:

Yamaha TRB5
Eden Metro
Eden 210 XST

so...

Help

Stumpy

Yes to 5 - strings

Need more info for the rest

1. Do you want to eventually be able to play a conventional DB (this effects the physical form of bass you would want)? Do you want a standard 3/4 size DB scale length 41-42"
or a BG 34-35" scale?

2. Do you want to learn to play with a bow (arco)?

3. What styles of music do you play and do you play high volume gigs?

4. Your budget

Answer some of these and the folks here will be better able to help you. Also read the sticky threads - many useful links.

BTW: Tone WRT EUB is a touchy subject and people have lots of different opinions.

Peace,
S

--> Probably not want to move into the conventional DB. but the standard 3/4 size should be ok.

2. Do you want to learn to play with a bow (arco)?

--> Nope.

3. What styles of music do you play and do you play high volume gigs?

I play modern rock (U2, Blink 182, etc.). But I need to have the jazz sound for the high school that I teach at.

4. Your budget

Under 1000.00usd

WRT = With Regard To

Under $1k your options are pretty limited - I would suggest checking out the Ergo megathread in this forum as I think they could provide you with a 5 string in your price range. Most cheap EUBs like the Palatinos are 4 strings.

Peace,
S
