Looking to buy an EUB.

I play bass in a jazz trio with a couple friends, and we'll play at parties, dinners, etc. Right now I use my Musicman S.U.B. for my bass (since that's all that I own as far as basses), but it'd be really nice to be able to play an upright, especially for the jazz/swing songs. Unfortunately, uprights are quite expensive, and on top of that they're incredibly annoying to transport. So buying an upright with a pick-up is out of the question. However, I was looking at getting an electric upright bass, so I could transport it, anplify it, and hopefully afford it. Any suggestions with which ones to get? I'd like one that can as nearly as possible, replicate the playability of an upright, so I'd probably rather get a tailpin than a stand, and a curved neck is almost essential, but I understand that buying a smaller bass, it's still not going to be as exact as the full-body upright. I'd like to be able to bow it, though it will be more pizz than anything else. I'll also probably not spend more than $1000 , and that's really pushing it. So far I've found the Dean Pace (I didn't like it, from the sound of it) and the Palatino (I've gathered that a bunch of people here like it). Any experience with those, or suggestions for other cheaper EUBs?

Find Ergos here: http://www.ergoinstruments.com . The basic 4-string was $730 delivered (to Texas).

The Ergo uses a drummer's cymbal stand, rather than a tail pin, but I got used to that difference very quickly. And, the cymbal stand allows you to let go of the bass without it falling over; quite an asset, if, like me, you also tweak the PA every once in a while during the set.

I love mine.
