Low B on a Palatino

i have been reading the forums for the past couple of weeks and have learned alot about EUB. i am looking to purchase a EUB in the next month or so. i am a former drummer who has moved to EB in the past couple of years and has always wanted an UB. because of many limitations (mostly my vehicle) i have chosen the EUB route. i want to spend under $1K and it seems like the Palatino is the best option for me because i can upgrade it over time (Palatino megathread). i don't want a "stick" look because my band already has a chapman stick player so i like the look of the palatino too. i am a recording engineer so i am not that worried about getting the instrument to sound the way i want it to sound.

anyway, my question is...
i have been playing a 5 string EB and want to know if anyone has put a low B on their Palatino (B,E,A,D) without any mods done?

and a follow up question is...
since it sounds like the tension on DB is more than EB would it be possible to just use the normal strings and tune down without getting the stings too "flabby"?

I have detuned the E on my Palatino down to C# and it sounded great. I would keep all my strings tuned down a whole step permanently but I lose track of where the notes are. XP Hope that helps.
