| My EUB build plan So I've decided to build an EUB. Here is my plan. All comments, suggestions, etc. welcomed.
52" total length with a body shape that will resemble either a Bugbass II or an Azola.
Neck-thru build using a laminate of maple/purpleheart/maple/purpleheart/maple.
2" wide at the nut and going to 3" at the end of the fingerboard.
Original build scale will be to use super long flatwound bass strings ( availability issues), but I plan on building a two piece adjustable "tailpiece" so I can go to longer strings later.
The neck will be 2" thick at the nut and eventually taper to 3" where the body contours start.
Big neck= no truss rod. The neck is still smaller that the last EUB I looked at, but I think it'll be stable enuff.
Fingerboard, nut, bridge and tailpiece ( if thats what it's called ) will all be made of purpleheart. Knobs for any electronics will be also.
The thru piece of the neck ( in the body ) will be 3" thick with the body being 2" and carved to blend the lines.
The body will be either ash or alder. I was gonna do a lightweight core with ash top to keep it light, but I can get wood in sizes good for one cut....make it a bit easier to build.
Piezos under to bridge.
Endpin.....probably won't play it on a stand.
Tru-oil or similar easy wipe on finish.
Big diameter tuning machines.
I plan on using a 1" thick fingerboard, planing and sanding so it will be 1/2" at the nut and close to 1" at the end to give a bit of tilt back. OR ... Should I do this by cutting the neck with the tilt to begin with?
Like I said...... suggestions on wood, finish, deminsions, whatever welcomed.
Thanks , Matt
