- I'd say this is exactly the case. The sound does come out a bit hot, but like a double bass if you have good technique you can pretty much get what you want out of it.
Like a carved double bass, the ergo is all about activating the piece of mohgany where BG is about activated the string and pick ups.
I am sure mine will sound a lot better through my GK (getting fixed) with a good preamp (don't have one yet) but for now I can get any sound I want out of it.
I played an NS design in the store. it was nice but more electronic than the ergo.
If any of you coming from BG pick up a fine double bass for the first time it is not likely to sound good either.
The ergo sounds like you.
There is a pretty avant garde solo on my myspace page, but toward the end you can hear some legit pizz and arco sounds.
It is a direct from a crappy little fender frontman.
I have pretty much stopped amplifying my double bass if the gig calls for amplification I bring the ergo.

Wow, it's been a long time for me. I see your point, damonsmith. I never did get the guts to bring in my bow and try the thing (though I didn't have a bow at the time), but it could very well be the player's technique. Not to mention that usually, direct recorded piezos (like in the ergo sound bytes) sound freakin fake unless you play your cards right. I played the ergo through an ampeg svt and it sounded well, close but no cigar. Oh well, it was an ampeg svt and I can officially say I've played through one (I also played a Jaco relic on it and couldn't sound close to Jaco for the life of me.)
