Newbie Question - is an EUB tuned one octave lower than BG?

I know this will sound nutty or dumb.

Is an E on upright one octave lower than a 4 string bass Guitar.. or is it that it has fewer overtones and just leaves the low impression?

Looking to learn.

Tim

Sincere thanks for the fast reply..

I know the purists will hate me .. I'm considering a BEAD or BEADG to get the lower notes.

Any comments/input/hindsight would be appreciated.

Will be using for adult contemporary (think Yanni) type genre --- backing a latin singer/keyboard player in church type venues.

Probably best to shop around for a 5 string EUB in that case. Personally I wouldnt want to lose the G string.

Even if it's adult contemporary (soft rock --- not jazz?)

My BG all have pencil thin necks.. I'm not a fan of the 1/2 baseball bats.

I have an NS CR5 which has a low B and is very easy to play - in fact the action is too low for my tastes. It's great having those extreme low notes - it can really shock people , especially bowed !!

For doing non technical legato.. possibly bowed..

Would 4 stringer be OK.. would be using it for ballads and stage freak factor.

Concern is that the 5er could bridge on the thick and chunky neck size.

Most EUBs are fairly chunky anyway - they have to be, to deal with the thicker and longer strings - but I tried 4 string NS basses and they were basically no different to the 5-string! When I played them side by side I noticed no difference!

Thanks that's the answer I'm looking for...

Unlike Guitars.. I have to be cautious about this buy--- I understand they're obscure turds to resell.

Confirming.. the NSWAV is acceptable to the average paying audience member for a bow (especially on a BString)?

It's the string length (scale length) that gives the EUB a fuller sound over a BG.

NS Wav is acceptable, but be sure to change the strings. NS Designs puts cheesy sounding strings on their basses from the factory (except the CRT series).

It took me about a week to sell my previous NS Design CR bass for a reasonable price. I used to have a CR5M, but sold it to buy a CR4T.

Thanks for the tip..

I'll read the sticky for the consensus of what to install string wise.
