For your benefit I posted a song on my Myspace page in which I play the Palatino. It's a very quick recording, and a little embarrassing to present, but it shows what the Palatino sounds like without any studio tricks. You can hear it by going to the Palatino megathread and clicking on the link in one of my recent posts.

sound samples with mods

Shameless self promo but what the hey..........

Go to this site:

http//www.myspace.comthesanssouciquartet

Most of these tracks are on a modded palatino with the RS1 pickup and Euro Ul's also has an Eminence bridge. There are some tracks of me on an Englehardt EC-1 with the same pickup and strings. Some of these tracks I can't remember which bass I had at the time.

Keep in mind the VE500 I have is heavily modded. I love it.

dang, bassbob! the link won't work!did it work for anyone else? and while we're at it, is anyone else willing to come forward with Palatino audio samples? remember to state what modifications, if any, were made to the bass so that we can get some ideas! ...ah...i googled the band name and got your website. fun music, nice band! ...but the audio samples need more of your good bass!!!

I'll soon have a track on the web (I hope!) where I play a really simple Palatino bass line, recorded at home through Guitar Rig. Because of this, it's not the greatest fidelity recording ever, but it should be something to hear. I'll post it when it is done. (I'm aiming for early next week.)

In the mean time, I will say that I really like the sound, although I am planning on having a luthier professionally set it up for me as soon as I save the cash up to do that. I think the string action is a little off, and I may replace the pickup as time goes by, but it is really fun, and a great deal for the amount I spent.

I'll play, but don't expect any fancy playing.

Here are two very short clips that give an idea of how my high and low registers sound:

Just so you know, I have no foam under my bridge which is at the moment some wenge, I'm using the gut tailpiece mod, and I have a homemade C extension all run through a Tech 21 bass driver. Hope that helps!

My bad

I did leave out some crucial slashes in the address

Most of the tracks were done on Audacity and the balance varies at times. There is one set in the archive section which sounds great except for the blown speaker. Thanks for listening. I will work on getting some more VE samples posted.

Lightbulb How About a New Thread Just for Sound Sample Links!

Hey, this is great! Nothing better than posting links to our actual playing so we can compare styles and sounds! Might I suggest we start a new thread with nothing but Palatino sound sample links?
