Not really,
From what I've heard the Godin fretless acoustic basses seem to sound the closest to an actual upright.

See my post in the other forum since you double posted ... they can get close but the only thing that sounds like an upright is an upright.

The Takamine is a lovely instrument, the finest acoustic bass guitar I've played. It has some DB features (end-pin, radiused fingerboard that may allow bowing) but it's still a guitar. I has some very useful sounds - unless the sound you need is a double bass.

IMO, one of the most unique intruments in the horizontal bass family.
Speaking only to FB radius and string separation, it is bowable.
A few short clips of my B-10 here:

I hate to encourage this thread, but I'm having trouble understanding why it has an endpin.

MD, I couldn't load your clips, so don't take my silence as a slight. I would have liked to have heard.

In my experience, though, you can get a nice sound with a Fender and some flatwounds. If you want to get closer than that to a doublebass sonically, play double bass. It's a different instrument and different experience. If it's what you're going for, go all the way.

At your service, sir: endpin included:
By the way, did I hear someone whisper that this B10 definately is able to produce a close upright sound?

And I hate to say it but bowing on the B10 is only possible above the fingerboard because the body is too wide. And in this position the curve of the fingerboard is not round enough. So you cannot manage to arco only one string at the time.....

TK... no problem on the clips. I checked it and it opens fine for me (Mac-Safari/Internet Explorer) but hay... I always look foward to feedback though.

I don't quite get the "encouraging this thread" thing. Other then string lenght, the B-10 meets all three criteria in the forum title, "EUB".

Acually, it's the lack of traditional "C" bouts that hinders the bowing of the E/G. The A/D, as I recall, can be bowed, but you can't dig in, so it's useless.

If you forget about trying to classify it or compare it to something that it isn't, then it's a very fine instrument. Nice woods, lovely finish, and nicely balanced sounds.
