What preamp should I get for my EUB?

Hey, I bought the Palatino, and rightnow the sound is much quiter than if I was playing my bass guitar through the same settings on the amp. But their is a preamp in the palatino already, correct? So can I get an onboard preamp that will amplify it with the same noise-to-sound ratio that my guitar has? I don't quite understand how impedance works and whatnot, so I'm not sure what exactly I need to buy. I want to get something under $100 though. Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem wanting to switch on stage between a semi-acoustic double bass and a solid body fretless without having to adjust volume levels. I bought a BOSS GEB-7 Graphic Equalizer for the double bass and a Behringer Xenyx 502 5-input mixer to run both instruments through. Each of those units has some pre-amp capacity and I find the combination works well. Will cost more than $100 though.
