Zeta Crossover - old vs new?

I have the original Xeta Crossover in the 3-knob configuration (Vol-Hi-Lo) and original pickup, and I am considering upgrading to the new 4-knob (Vol-Hi-Mid-Lo + midi out) electronics and piezo bridge. Does anyone have first hand experience with the difference in sound between a new Zeta Crossover and an old one circa 1997? Do "new" Zeta Crsossovers sound significantly better than the "old" ones?

FYI, I'm seeking to get a bit closer to a upright sound while staying on a 34-inch scale. At minimum, I want to reduce the annoying "thump" that follows when my right hand finger comes to rest on the next string.

I'm not familiar with the older ones. I will say that my newer one really has a nice sound to it, very crisp and clean. I don't have any thump sound. It does not really sound like an upright though in all honesty. I have 1/4 size upright strings on it and it really gets a deep tone that I do not get out of any of my EBG's though.

I do want to mention Zeta has the worst customer service of any company I have ever dealt with.

I've heard that about Zeta's customer service. You know, when I was in Phoenix last month, I hunted down the Zeta factory. It's a very small operation. But Kozy, the owner/manager, was very personable and I got a good feeling about him. There is no doubt I will be relying on his handshake and my personal relationship if I send in my Zeta Crossover for the upgrade.

My band-mates like the Zeta sound - it definitely does not sound like a fretless BG, but I agree it doesn't sound anything like a DB. (Whereas NS CR4 does sound to me like an upright, but it is a 41" scale.)
