*RARE* Warwick Fortress I FRETLESS 4-String

Sign in to disble this ad
For sale is a Warwick Fortress I Fretless 4-string (Yes, German-made, not a Rockbass).

I really love this bass but I'm moving to Haiti in a few short months to do long-term mission work and need to get rid of everything for storage and cash purposes. So, ALL of my basses and amps, besides my main MTD 635, are being sold.

This bass has a gorgeous sound, very light weight (compared to the other Warwicks I've played/owned, and fantastic tone.
It has loads and loads of mwah fretless tone, a very nice choppy Jaco-ish bridge tone, and a very solid, unobtrusive P-bass-ish sound with the P Pickups soloed. The active electronics need to be used with taste because there is lots of headroom, especially with the bass boost. If you want more low end, it's there!
Another cool feature is the volume knob can be pulled up to disengage active eletronics.

This bass is in perfect working condition but definitely what I'd call "lovingly gigged." There are a good bit of scratches and small dings on the body. I've photographed them all well.

Specs (or what I could gather from Warwick's site):
-Ash Body
- Midnight Wine/Red Stain Finish
-3-Piece Wenge Neck (Bolt-On)
-Ebony Unlined Fretboard (dots on side)
-Saddle width 38,5 mm / 24. fret 63 mm
-Neck thickness: 1. fret 21 mm / 18. fret 24,5 mm
-Bolt-on neck
-34" Scale
-Chrome hardware
-Sunken (In-body) Straplocks
-Active MEC P/J pickups 4-strings)
-Active MEC Electronics
-1 Volume, 1 Balance, 2 tone pots (Bass und Treble)
-2-piece Warwick bridge
-Weight: 8.8 lbs

Asking $1100 Shipped.
I've never seen another one of these (fretless) anywhere on the internet. This is a rare find and an amazing bass.

I'm going to guess that you aren't interested in trades then, right?

Beautiful bass!! If I had the cash I'd be all over this like a nun sandwich. It would be a perfect mate to my '93 Fortress fretted.

There's something viscerally appealing about the shape of the body. How does this light Warwick balance on a strap? Does it have any five-string sisters it would introduce me to?

MarkA, it balances well, feels great through a long gig (I used to play 3-4 hours of worship at my old church every Sunday and I loved playing this bass because it was so light and quick).
Unfortunately no 5-string Warwicks for sale. I do, however, have a 5-string Lakland Skyline 55-02 for sale on the forum ( Lakland Skyline 55-02 5-String Blonde ).
