I just got this bass and a hardshell case for my 14-year old son (TBer TromBass) in a trade. When I handed it to him, he was pretty excited at first, but after playing it for the past week or so, he told me that his teenage mitts aren't big enough to comfortably reach the B-string. The plan is to use the proceeds from this sale to buy a bass locally that he can actually try out before we buy it, so trades aren't in the cards for this one.
$600 insured/shipped to your door in the hardshell case.
It's a 2001 MTD Heir 5 with a flamed maple top, white pearloid pickguard, and a 24 fret maple fretboard. It has a MM/J pickup configuration, a zero fret (Buzz Feiten tuning system), and an asymmetrical maple neck. Many players like these MTDs, describing them as some of the most comfortable necks around. The neck width is 1-3/4" at the nut...all the way out to 19 mm spacing at the bridge. This "vintage" Heir was originally designed and built as a passive bass, but the addition of a preamp is one of the most popular mods done. No additional holes were drilled to accommodate the additional EQ controls.
It's in really good condition, with just a nick or two in the headstock, and some minor scuffs on the back. The surface scuffs on the back could probably be buffed out easily, as they're not through the paint.
The previous owner modified it with:
- Audere CLS-VB-4B (9V) 4-band preamp 3 black stacked knobs (Volume/Blend; Low-Mid/Bass; Hi-Mid/Treble)
Original passive controls will be included so the electronics can be returned to passive, if desired. - Switchcraft jack
- Dunlop Straploks (black)
- Hipshot "B" bridge (chrome)
- fully shielded rear cavity and pickup routes
