I'm moving overseas to do an engineering PhD in just over a week, and anyway have decided to go back to 4-string bass. Note that due to my move, all sales are final and I cannot accept any returns [I only have 4 "business days" left to ship the bass before I fly out to London on the 14th].
This is a fretted Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones [DJ5] 5-string fretted bass with passive pickups [5-string Jazz Bass stacked humbuckers by Nordstrand [NJ5FS] installed that were $240, also have the original single-coil's [shown in Pic 11 and 12] from Lakland], maple fingerboard with "mother-of-pearloid" block inlays. It has an old 70's Fender Jazz bass vibe, but with 5-strings, and 35-inch scale for a great low-B. From the serial number [see Pic 4] it's a 2009 model. Which makes sense as I bought it new from Bass Central in November 2009.
It also comes with two new sets of Lakland strings for 5-string bass, a $50 value! This bass is "Designed and Completed in Chicago USA - Crafted in Indonesia" and "Plek'd in Chicago" [see Pic 3]
The bass has had very light play, and is basically "like new" except for three mild cosmetic problems you can't notice [but I'm fanatically thorough on inspection!]:
- a small "gouge" in the wood under the pickguard from a stripped pickup screw which was yanked out [as it's under the pickguard cover anyway of course you can't see it]
- adjusting the pickups one of the screws [the bottom left screw on the neck pickup] is a little stripping on the "Philips head" so you may want to replace [the pickup is in position and doesn't need adjusting, but you would probably want to remove this and use a new screw]
- I feel a very tiny "bump" in the finish on the back of the neck around the 4th fret. It's very faint, and I can't see anything [and definitely nothing there in photographs], so I think it is probably just a finish flaw that could be sanded down with ultra-fine sandpaper [if it bothers you -- I only noticed it on my final inspection]
I'm pretty sure any half-decent luthier could fix the above [very minor] problems [if they bother you] for $50 or so. As I have about $1700 invested in this bass [1400 + 250 for the pickups] you'll still be saving hundreds and hundreds. You won't find a better deal on a Lakland right now.
It comes with the original Lakland SKB-style hardshell case (not shown, but it's in similarly "like new" condition, it's the usual nice hardshell case from Lakland for $140).
Please don't bother if you cannot get cleared payment to me by Friday the 10th, as I then won't have time to ship it out amidst my overseas move on the 14th! As soon as I have cleared payment, I will ship it out within 24 hours.
No "lowball" offers please -- if it doesn't sell I'll just keep it in safe storage at my parents' house before I split. Or I may still try and check it in on the plane....
