1954 Fender Precision

I bought this bass and had it refinished by Bluesman Vintage. It was a fugly picnic-bench red stain, and I had them bring it back to the proper butterscotch.

Bass has a 12-54 Tadeo Gomez neck. This era body got the forearm and belly contours around that time, so I figure it's a 54 or 55. Pots look right, cap is replaced, knobs are right. Bridge has a super low serial number on it. Pickup looks like it was rewound in 84 - maybe by the factory? Has a typical repaired E-tuner crack that Bluesman made sure was stable. The original guard was gone when I got it, but she has a nice replacement on there now. Tugbar was gone. Covers are repros. Tuners are all original and functional but all are bent slightly.

She's not a museum quality piece by any stretch of the imagination, but she plays and sounds great, and let's face it - you just don't see these that often. When you do find a refin, it's $6500.

Given the tuners and the missing guard, I'm going to start this at $5600 with insured shipping included. I will entertain reasonable offers and serious trades - vintage basses only, please....

2/17 dropping this to $5250 shipped.

I had never heard of Tadeo Gomez...what a ball the Fender shop must have been in 1954, check out the photo from their Xmas party:

I just read a book last week about 51 -57(?) P's.
That TG is suppose to be like the Holy Grail.
That crack by the E tuner is VERY common on those basses.

This is the beotchy step-sister to mine, TG sig and E-crack included. Tadeo's necks are a piece of artcraft that almost seem to play themselves. It's da bomb and this is a steal. Somebody should jump and run fast.

I've done biz with Duke several times: great guy.

Super neat bass.

This bass is still available.
